Overview of PoE Economy
Path of Exile features a unique economy that lacks a unified gold currency. Instead, it relies on a barter system using functional currency items that serve direct crafting purposes. The most common exchange media are Chaos Orbs (for mid-tier trades) and Divine Orbs (for high-tier purchases). Rare items, fully crafted weapons, and unique armor pieces are frequently valued in stacks of these currency items.
Because PoE is highly competitive and resets its economy every 3-4 months with new league expansions, currency availability is critical. Third-party marketplaces help players acquire orbs quickly to complete their build setups.
Popular PoE Digital Products
PoE's virtual economy supports currency items, specific uniques, and crafting assets:
- Divine Orbs: The high-value standard currency, used to reroll values of random modifiers on rare items.
- Chaos Orbs: The common currency, used to reroll random modifiers on rare items.
- Mirror of Kalandra: The rarest currency in the game, used to clone a non-unique item.
- Boss Carry Services & Items: Unique maps, high-level equipment (like Mageblood or Headhunter), and custom gems.
PoE Hideout Trading & Safety Tips
Since PoE has no auction house for direct currency delivery, all transactions are carried out via face-to-face trade in player hideouts.
1. Secure Face-to-Face Trade Rules
When completing the trade, you will invite the seller or join their party, then teleport to their hideout.
- Give a Rare or Unique Item: In PoE, transferring stacks of Divine Orbs for nothing looks suspicious. Always place a junk rare or unique item in your trade window. Vetted sellers will request this to make the transaction look like a standard item trade.
- Never use basic currency (like Scroll of Wisdom or Portal Scroll) as your trade item, as these are flagged easily. Use an actual piece of equipment (rare boots, rings, etc.) instead.
2. Maintain Absolute Chat Silence
Do not talk about real money buying, marketplace order numbers, or the platform name in local, party, or whisper chat channels. Grinding Gear Games (GGG) monitors chat logs closely. Keep all communication on the marketplace dashboard.
3. Confirm the Orb Count Before Accepting
Path of Exile requires you to hover your mouse over all items in the trade window before clicking "Accept." Use this time to count the stacks of Chaos or Divine Orbs. Make sure they correspond precisely to your order quantities before confirming the trade.
